Holi: Oral Health Care Tips During Holi
As Holi approaches, many of you might have already arranged your plans. Not only do the colours excite the younger kids, but Holi is a festival that is loved and enjoyed by people of all ages - from children to teenagers to adults to the elderly, everyone takes part in the festival with great enthusiasm.

We will celebrate Holi on 8 March this year.
But, while it's all fun and games, once it is all done, we are left with hands, faces and clothes bombarded with colours, almost looking like a walking, talking colour palette. And that shower to get rid of all that colour is nothing less of a mini battle.
Apart from your skin and hair, did you know that Holi takes a toll on your oral health too?
Oral Health Care Tips During Holi
In addition to the vibrant colours of Holi, sweet mithai is a constant part of the festival. The main highlight during festivals is eating delicious, homemade sweets, tbh.
However, excessive indulgence may sometimes adversely affect our teeth, resulting in tooth sensitivity, caries, and other oral health problems - and the best part is that you don't have to avoid desserts!
1. Use a dental cap
During Holi, the chances of colour entering the mouth are high. In order to protect your teeth from damage, it's important to wear dental caps to protect them, especially if you have veneers or caps.
Keeping your mouth tightly closed whenever someone applies colour is the best course of action this Holi season [1].

2. Don't consume artificially-coloured foods
Food items that are high in artificial colours and preservatives should be avoided as these stain your teeth and promote bacteria growth. It is possible to switch to whitening toothpaste, readily available on the market if you feel your teeth are stained and you wish to keep those stains from recurring [2].
3. Brush twice a day
As you enjoy the delicious Holi treats, it is important to make sure you brush and floss your teeth on a daily basis. When you neglect brushing, sugary components remain stuck on your teeth for a long period of time, resulting in cavities [3].
4. Keep yourself hydrated
Make sure that you remain hydrated by drinking lots of water and fresh juices at regular intervals. Particularly, you should drink lots of water before snacks and meals. This will prevent you from overindulging in snacks.
It is also important for you to drink water after meals to flush out the food residue, clean your mouth, and prevent plaque development.
5. For sensitive teeth
The chewing of sweet treats can sometimes cause a short sharp twinge on your teeth. This could be a sign of sensitivity. Simply switching to a sensitive toothpaste can let you enjoy the treats without having to worry about sensitive teeth [4].

On A Final Note...
Don't let your oral health go out the window this Holi. Be careful and have a wonderful holiday season.
