Is Your Fridge Making Your Food Stale? 6 Signs Of Spoiled Food
Let's face it - we've all been guilty of neglecting our fridges at some point. You've got your groceries delivered, stashed them away, and called it a day. But here's the tea - if you're not vigilant, your fridge could be pulling some serious shenanigans with your food, leaving your meals far from fleek.
So, what's the deal, fam? Is your fridge killing your vibe? More clearly - is your fridge killing your food?!

Is Your Fridge Making Your Food Stale?
1. Smell
First things first, your nose knows! If you open your fridge and get hit with a wave of funky smells that could rival a fish market, it's time to investigate. Food that's past its prime can emit unpleasant odours, indicating it's time to bid adieu.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), these odours come from volatile organic compounds released by bacteria as they feast on your leftovers. Not very appetizing, right?
2. Slimy
Imagine reaching for that organic kale you bought a few days ago and finding it covered in slimy goo. Eww! The slimier, the grosser, the more you should toss it. This is a telltale sign that your greens have overstayed their welcome.
A study published in the journal "Food Control" highlights that slime on veggies is a clear sign of bacterial growth. Bacteria party, anyone?

3. Moldy
Your leftover pizza shouldn't double as a science experiment. If you spot any mould on your food, especially bread, cheese, or fruit, it's a big no-no.
The World Health Organization (WHO) warns that certain moulds produce mycotoxins, which can be harmful to your health. It's not just about the green and fuzzy appearance; it's what's lurking beneath the surface.
4. Texture
When your once-crunchy carrot sticks turn limp and your chips go stale, it's not just a taste issue. Changes in texture are a clear sign that your snacks are no longer in their prime.
A study in the "Journal of Food Science" reveals that texture changes in food often result from moisture migration, which affects the overall quality and taste.

5. Sour
Got a whiff of your milk, and it smells like something you'd use for a science experiment? That's a big red flag! Fresh milk should have a clean, slightly sweet scent. Sour or off-putting odours are a sign it's time to say goodbye.
6. Food labels
You've probably seen those "best before" or "use by" dates on your groceries. But here's the deal, fam, these dates aren't just suggestions - they're there for your safety. Using food past its expiration date can be risky.
