There are serious consequences if your body does not produce the appropriate amount of insulin, and the same applies when your body produces excess insulin.

High levels of insulin (also known as hyperinsulinemia) can cause some pretty serious health issues, which is why you should learn how to lower your insulin levels on your own [1]. When insulin levels are chronically elevated it can cause excessive weight gain and serious health problems such as cancer and heart disease [2].
Increasing blood insulin levels can also result in your cells becoming more resistant to the hormone's effects. If you have been advised to reduce your insulin levels, here are some tips to help you reduce this condition, known as insulin resistance.
This condition leads your pancreas to produce even more insulin, creating a potentially dangerous cycle.
How To Lower Your Insulin Levels?
1. Be careful not to overeat
When you eat a large amount of foods that cause your pancreas to release excessive amounts of insulin, you can eventually develop hyperinsulinemia due to the increased amount of insulin released by your pancreas [3].
If you are overweight or obese and have type 2 diabetes or metabolic syndrome, reducing your calorie consumption can help you lower your insulin levels.
2. Exercise should be a priority
Exercise can reduce insulin levels and increase insulin sensitivity when performed regularly. Aerobic exercise, strength training, or a combination of both may have powerful insulin-lowering effects [4].

3. Increase your intake of fatty fish
There is some evidence that long-chain omega-3 fatty acids contained in fish have the potential to reduce insulin resistance and insulin levels, especially in those with metabolic disorders.
Although fish oil supplements are widely sold and often used in studies, the effective dose has not yet been identified [4].
4. Try green tea
A high concentration of an antioxidant called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) in green tea may help to combat insulin resistance.
Several studies show that green tea may increase insulin sensitivity and lower insulin levels, but the results are mixed [5].
5. Try cinnamon
Cinnamon is a delicious spice that contains health-promoting antioxidants. In some studies, cinnamon has been found to reduce insulin levels and increase insulin sensitivity, however, the results are conflicting [6].

Additionally, eating less refined carbs and sugars, eating more fibrous and nutrient-dense foods, and getting adequate amounts and types of protein can help you manage your insulin levels as well.
