Surprising Causes Of Muscle Cramps
Muscle cramps can vary from mild to severe. There are a host of disorders that may cause one time or repetitive muscle cramps, stiffness and pain.
Everything from the common influenza and fever to more severe diseases like fibromyalgia, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, etc. can cause muscle cramps. Insect bites and allergies could also have this type of impact. However, there are a couple of surprising reasons for muscle cramps.

These cramps are quite common but we tend to ignore them. However, if we know what causes these muscle cramps, we can take precautions and prevent them from occurring.
The most common cause of muscle cramps is dehydration. This specially happens when you do not drink enough water to stay hydrated while exercising or while going out in the sun and there is excessive sweating.

This causes disturbances in the electrolyte balance in the body. Due to lack of fluids and minerals, you can get muscle cramps.
When you have a poor posture, you can get muscle cramps. This is because you end up exerting pressure on a particular part of the body resulting in lack of sufficient oxygen and proper nutrient supply to the muscles.

Have you ever been woken up in the middle of the night by frequent muscle pains? It could be due to hypoxia, an interruption in the blood flow. Apply a heat pack to get relief from this condition.

You can get muscle cramps if you are deficient in vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 deficiency disables the supply of oxygen to different parts of the body as a result of low blood cells. So if you get muscle cramps, check whether you suffer from anaemia.

Potassium deficiency also leads to muscle cramps. Potassium deficiency leads to electrolyte imbalance, causing muscle cramps. Certain medications like pills that stabilize blood pressure levels can cause muscle cramps. This is because these medications cause electrolyte imbalance.
