Insomnia is a sleep disorder where a person finds it difficult to sleep during the night. It is a most common sleep disorder. There are two types of insomnia that exist, which are primary insomnia and secondary insomnia.

Sleep plays a very significant role in helping us maintain a healthy lifestyle. There are certain foods that act like medicines in treating insomnia. Foods rich in calcium, magnesium and tryptophan improve our sleep patterns.

Honey: Honey is one of the popular ingredients that can be used to treat insomnia. Honey contains amino acids that aid in a good night's sleep, thus improving our sleep pattern. It relaxes our senses giving us a sound sleep during the night.

Curd: Curd is yet another ingredient that treats insomnia well. Curd improves the digestive process and aids in a better sleep. Consuming at least 3 cups of curds in a day helps in getting rid of sleeplessness or insomnia.
Bananas: Bananas are sleep boosters. It contains the right amount of nutrients and tryptophan that promote a good sleep. Bananas calm the neurons and reduce the brain's activity at night. Eating bananas every day promotes a sound sleep by reducing depression.

Milk: Consuming a glass of warm milk before going to sleep induces a good sound sleep. Since milk is rich in calcium, it increases the production of serotonin that eases our stress and gives us a good sleep. Soy milk and tofu can be preferred by those who are lactose intolerant.
