We all love spicy food, but when they cause acidity, we just hate it. By 'acidity', we mean gastritis or inflammation of the lining of stomach. Would you want to know of Ayurvedic remedies to treat acidity? Then, keep reading.
Excessive secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach causes acidity, which in turn leads to inflammation and discomfort. Prolonged acidity can cause chronic indigestion, ulcers and other digestive diseases.
Why acidity/acid reflux occurs?
Our stomach produces certain acids to breakdown the food that we eat for digestive purpose. The problem comes up when cells within the lining of the stomach produce a quantity of acid that is more than what the stomach requires.

Too much intake of spicy foods generally leads to excessive secretion of acids in the gastric glands. Sometimes, the sour liquid goes back up to our throat, causing an acid reflux.
Several types of medicines are available in the market to control acidity. However, it is always better to go for Ayurvedic remedies to treat the problem of acidity.
There are several of them available around us and we just need to pick the right combination. Besides Ayurveda, Yoga, healthy diet and Homeopathy can also aid in alleviating the problem.
So, here are 10 Ayurvedic treatments to treat acidity in the stomach, take a look.

1. Lemon Juice:
This is an extremely helpful remedy to treat acidity and it reduces vomiting tendencies and gives relief from bloating.

2. Long Pepper Powder & Honey:
Mixing half a gram long pepper powder and a spoon of honey and having it twice a day cures gastritis and acidity.

3. Triphala Powder:
Take a tablespoon of Triphala with half a glass of boiled water. This combination, added with a spoon of honey or ghee, gives great relief from gastritis. Ghee helps in improving our digestion.

4. Boiled Ash Gourd & Jaggery:
A mixture of boiled ash gourd and jaggery gives relief from bloating and inflammation in the stomach caused by acidity.

5. Fennel Seeds:
Chew half a spoon of fennel seeds after your meal to strengthen your digestive capacity and hence a reduced tendency to have acidity.

6. Cumin Seed (Jeera) Powder:
Add half a teaspoon of the quintessential cumin seed powder to a litre of water, boil and drink it. It will be best if you can drink this water every time instead of normal water. However, make sure the fresh mixture of seeds and water is prepared every day.

7. Ginger/Garlic-Milk-Water:
Boil a combination of these three till the water evaporates. Filter and drink. Milk is a good remedy for gastritis.

8. Buttermilk:
Add a pinch of asafoetida (hing), turmeric and half a teaspoon of fenugreek in half a glass of buttermilk. It gives an effective result in treating gastritis.

9. Fruits:
Grapes, apples, pomegranates and bananas also have soothing effects for those who suffer from frequent acidity and gastritis problem.

10. Others:
Apart from the above-mentioned Ayurvedic remedies for treating acidity, the following also help you get rid of the problem:
• Coriander, which acts as a coolant
• Herbs like Ajwain
• Coconut water
• Amla (Indian gooseberry)
• Bitter vegetables like bitter gourd, asparagus, etc.
• Wheat, green gram and barley
Trying the above will give you a much-needed relief from the problem of acidity. However, apart from food habits, Ayurveda also suggests some other ways to avoid gastritis; like avoiding too much exposure to heat, having food on time and giving up fasting. Of course, you can have spicy food but with a bit of caution.
