Diabetes is one of the most common lifestyle diseases that our society is suffering from nowadays. The first signs of diabetes are high levels of blood sugar, blurred vision, headaches and fatigue. It is followed by excessive weight loss or gain, frequent urination and a dry mouth.

Other symptoms of diabetes include itchy skin, most frequently in the groin area, cuts and sores that take a long time to heal, frequent yeast or urinary tract infections and difficulty in hearing.
Diabetes is caused by a large number of factors. If you are overweight or obese, do not exercise regularly, are stressed out all the time and have a family history of diabetes, you have every chance of suffering from diabetes.

If you lead a sedentary lifestyle, smoke, eat a lot of processed meat, eat foods that are rich in sugar and fat and have high levels of cholesterol, you are at risk of developing diabetes.

Diabetes is also caused in certain women when they are pregnant and it is known as gestational diabetes. Women who suffer from polycystic ovarian syndrome are also at risk of developing diabetes.

Diabetes can affect the whole body in a number of negative ways. It can cause coronary heart diseases, stroke and damage to the blood vessels in the body. It affects the heart and the brain. It also affects the eyes and sometimes leads to blindness. It causes kidney failure and weakens the nerves of the body.
