Anti-Ageing Benefits Found In A Weed: Know More About It
Ageing is an inevitable part of life, but anyone who says they don't dread its effects is probably lying. Often, it is said that the key to staying young lies in accepting nature and the reality of our existence - and nature may simply hold the key to staying young.
Certain herbs in Ayurveda are considered to possess anti-ageing properties, such as saga, gotu kola, amla, tulsi, kumkumadi tailam, turmeric, bakuchi, etc.

While not all of them are necessarily applied topically, their adaptogenic effects on your entire body can indeed make some miracle anti-ageing herbs.
These herbs work by promoting balance and homoeostasis in the body, reducing inflammation and calming the nervous system. This can improve skin health by reducing wrinkles, blemishes and other signs of ageing [1].
An invasive weed has been found to possess anti-ageing and wound-healing properties, according to a recent study [2].

Anti-Ageing Benefits Found In A Weed
The fruit of a noxious plant known as the cocklebur plant has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may not only act as a skin protectant but may also help reduce UVB damage and speed wound healing [3].
What Is The Cocklebur Plant?
The cocklebur plant is a weed that grows in the summer. The plant produces flowers that are accompanied by burs. These burs contain the plant's fruit.
When an animal or human brushes up against the plant, the burs will become attached to them, spreading them throughout the surrounding area [4].
You may have seen these when playing in the field, those thorny tiny things you may have gotten attached to your clothes.

A cocklebur plant has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries, commonly used to treat rhinitis and headaches. More recently, researchers have investigated using the plant to treat rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, and cancer.
Benefits Of The Cocklebur Plant For Anti-Ageing And Wound Healing
Cocklebur fruit extracts enhanced collagen synthesis and degradation and speeded wound healing. At lower doses, they also provided protection against UVB radiation, but at the highest dose tested, they inhibited UVB-induced cell damage [5].
The main phenolic compound in cocklebur is chlorogenic acid, which acts as an antioxidant. Furthermore, ß-sitosterol acts as a phytosterol in cocklebur.
Both bioactive compounds have been studied for its antioxidant, skin allergic, and wound healing properties.
Cocklebur Side Effects
Despite the positive results of the research, the researchers warn that high doses of cocklebur fruit extract may be harmful. Therefore, additional research is required to determine the safe levels for cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications [6].
On A Final Note...
Researchers have not yet determined whether cocklebur helps heal wounds and produce collagen, a protein that plays a significant role in the health of the skin.

However, more research is needed, but the anti-ageing and wound-healing benefits found in cocklebur appear promising.
