The Queen’s Gambit: Beth Harmon Aka Anya Taylor-Joy’s Fashion And Her 4 Winter Outfits Decoded
The Queen's Gambit became an unlikely hit series of 2020. The Netflix series is based on the underdog of on-screen subjects - chess but contrary to your expectations, The Queen's Gambit is a gripping watch. Set in the 1950s-1960s, the drama miniseries is based on the life of a chess prodigy, Elizabeth (Beth) Harmon (played by Anya Taylor-Joy), who is an orphan and finds escapism from her past by playing chess. The game of chess might be her refuge from the painful childhood days but very early in the series, we witness how drugs help her calm down before her game. As the series unfolds, The Queen's Gambit reveals the perception around chess in comparison to other sports and games, life at an orphanage, friendship bonds, motherhood, addiction, obsession, and alcoholism. With calculated restraint and equally reckless lifestyle choices, Anya Taylor-Joy as Elizabeth Harmon delivered a stunning performance. Written and directed by Scott Frank, The Queen's Gambit is a tightly-packed series with a little scope for loopholes.

While the miniseries can give you goosebump-moments, it can also give you interesting fashion moments. As a child, Beth in the orphanage is seen as a girl in a dull uniform and the only memorable dress she has with her name embroidered on it, is also burnt by the headmistress at the orphanage. Even when she is adopted, she is mocked for her unassuming clothes by the girls in her school. So, Beth is quite evidently, drawn towards the idea of dressing up stylishly. Chess is her main focus but in her subconscious, dressing up fashionably is also the goal. Her highly competitive side can be seen via her fashion too. For instance, in the scene, where there's a night-out with the girls of her school, Beth consciously decides on wearing black and she does stand out at the intimate party, looking more fashionable and modern. It almost seems as if she wants to beat those girls at their game, the attitude which she has when playing chess also.
Yes, she wants to beat the grandmaster quite badly but she is also keen on becoming rich for the wealth can make her buy clothes that she couldn't afford earlier. And when she dresses up, we see her giving us some late 60s winter fashion goals that can absolutely make us look a class apart in modern times. We have decoded those winter outfits for you.

The Polo-Neck Sweater And Tights
The polo-neck sweaters and tights are the ultimate comfort wear in winters and Beth Harmon convinced us with her outfit. She wore a classic white polo-neck sweater and paired it with black tights. Her signature red bob tresses rounded out her avatar. This combination, popular in the 60s, is mainstream in modern times too. And such a combination can give you the luxury of looking stunning without doing much.

The Grey Dress And Long Jacket
In one of the scenes, Beth Harmon is busy shopping with shopping bags in her hand. And she looked fashionable in her grey structural woollen dress with pleated accents. She teamed her dress with a pink and white woollen jacket and black sandals. Well, with this ensemble, she made a strong case for colour-blocks. This look is pretty evolved and it shows us how observant she must have been of other people's dress sense.

The White Outfit Look
Beth Harmon also gave us the white queen look and she looked amazing in her outfit that consisted of a snowy-white blazer paired with matching pants and a winter cap. The only outfit that contrasted was her green sweater. Well, in a nutshell, Beth commands attention, somewhere in her subconscious.

The Checkered Blazer
Beth Harmon wore the most striking of outfits in the miniseries. When people around her opted for muted hues, she selected more vibrant ensembles. In a way, she gives it back with her clothes. The neglect she faced in her growing years probably makes her dress up even more for fashionable clothes make her get attention. So, for instance, your eyes are only on her as she is dressed in this checkered overcoat paired with a green sweater as compared to the other two people behind her.
Elizabeth Harmon's fashion is also significant in the series. What do you think about her outfits in the series? Let us know that.
