Gandhi Inspiration: The Khadi Fashion
Happy
Gandhi
Jayanti!
Gandhi
gave
us
Independence,
a
dry
day
and
a
fashion
fad.
Well,
a
lot
of
us
are
not
happy
today
for
having
a
Friday
off
because
what's
the
point,
you
can't
drink.
No
worries
people,
because
what
if
we
can't
drink,
we
can
definitely
go
for
shopping
in
Gandhian
style.
Gandhi had a penchant for Khadi. He handspun it himself and making others in his ashram spun it, too. Must say he was crazy about the fabric. So today for the love of our dearest Bapu and his Khadi love, let's talk about the Khadi fashion, but before we continue, let's go through a brief history of khadi.
Khadi, also known as Khaddar, is a hand-woven/spun cloth from India majorly made from cotton. It is spun on a spinning wheel called chakra. Well, it was not just a fashion statement back then but it was a movement called Khadi movement started by Mr. Gandhi to not dependent on British for cotton.
Gandhi
started
the
movement
to
make
people
self-reliant
on
cotton
and
clothes.
So
before
it
became
largely
accepted
in
fashion
circles,
it
had
a
vital
significance.
In
today's
world,
it
is
more
of
a
fashion
statement.
Many
fashion
designers
are
known
for
using
khadi
as
their
primary
fabric.
So
here's
to
khadi
and
Bapu
bringing
in
the
new
era
of
fashion:
A Khadi inspired fashion show.

A khadi tunic popular among cotton lovers.

There are many khadi pants available in the market. The best part is they are available in various colors.

A khadi inspired ensemble.

Khadi is not just a fabric, it's an emotion. Due to extensive work involved in making a khadi dress, it's an expensive fabric but rather a comfortable one. So this Gandhi Jayanti, are you up for buying khadi?
