Cannes Fashion Gets The Modi Touch : Ruchi Gujjar’s Daring Red Carpet Moment
The Cannes Film Festival is renowned for its glitz, glamour, and spectacular fashion moments that capture global attention. This year, Indian model and actor Ruchi Gujjar turned heads not just with her dazzling attire but with an element of surprise that sparked conversation across fashion and political circles alike. Draped in a golden lehenga steeped in tradition and artistry, her look stood out as a remarkable blend of culture and individuality, leaving many intrigued about the story behind her ensemble.
A Neckpiece That Spoke Volumes
Designed by Roopa Sharmaa, Gujjar's lehenga featured rich gota patti, intricate zardozi, mirror work, and a flowing Bandhani dupatta that echoed bridal grandeur. Yet, the focal point remained the necklace; equal parts reverent and radical. In a fashion landscape where subtlety is often prized, Gujjar's Modi-themed jewellery was anything but.
Each locket, crafted with traditional kundan detailing, was a miniature shrine to the political leader turning a style statement into a bold assertion of admiration. It's not every day that one sees political figures elevated to fashion icons, particularly on a global stage known more for its cinematic sparkle than political undercurrents.
Fashion Or Flamboyance?
Gujjar's choice has sparked a spectrum of reactions. While supporters praised her courage and pride, others questioned the tastefulness of such overt political imagery in a fashion setting. For many, it raised an uncomfortable question: where do we draw the line between personal expression and public spectacle?
Political references in fashion aren't new-images of politicians have graced T-shirts, badges, and even sari prints across the subcontinent. But Cannes isn't a campaign rally. And turning one of the world's most elegant red carpets into a podium of patriotism? That's bound to stir debate.
From Rajasthan To The World Stage
Hailing from a traditional Gujjar family in Rajasthan, Ruchi's journey is one of determination and passion. After completing her education at Maharani College in Jaipur, she ventured to Mumbai to pursue a career in entertainment, breaking cultural expectations along the way. Winning the Miss Haryana title in 2023 propelled her into the limelight, leading to notable roles in popular music videos like Heli Mein Chor and Jab Tu Meri Na Rahi. Her appearance at Cannes marked a milestone, showcasing her evolution from a regional talent to an emerging global personality.

Fashion Meets Politics : Reactions And Reflections
In conclusion, Ruchi Gujjar's appearance at Cannes drew widespread attention and sparked discussion. Her ensemble, blending traditional design with a touch of political fashion, became one of the most talked-about looks of the festival. As with many bold style moments, it left a mark-inviting reflection, conversation, and a range of interpretations.
