Aloo Chokha: Potato Side Dish
Aloo Chokha is one of the side dishes made with potatoes. It hails from the interiors of Bihar. This easy Indian recipe is the staple diet in villages of Bihar. The native element of Aloo Chokha makes it a favourite among many Indian. This potato side dish is very easy to make. It takes just about 20 minutes to try this easy Indian recipe.

a
regular
basis
you
can
have
this
potato
side
dish
with
dal
and
rice.
Aloo
chokha
also
goes
well
with
rotis
or
parathas.
In
fact,
you
can
even
try
having
dosas
with
it.

Serves: 4
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients
- Potatoes- 6 (boiled)
- Mustard seeds- 1tsp
- Onion- 1 (chopped finely)
- Ginger- 1inch
- Garlic pod- 6
- Green chillies- 3
- Red chilli powder- 1/2tsp
- Turmeric powder- 1/2tsp
- Cumin powder- 1tsp
- Coriander powder- 1/2tsp
- Mustard Oil- 1tbsp
- Salt- as per taste
- Coriander leaves- 1/2 cup (chopped)
Procedure
1. Boil the potatoes in a pressure cooker for the duration of 2 whistle. Let the potatoes cool and the peel them.
2. Mash boiled potatoes with your hands or with the back of a serving spoon.
3. Meanwhile grind the ginger, garlic and 2 green chillies into a paste.
4. Heat oil in the pan and when it starts steaming, add mustard seeds and a slit green chilli to it.
5. As the mustard seeds start popping, add the onions to the pan and saute on low flame for 2 minutes.
6. Then add the ginger-garlic-chillies paste to pan. Cook on low flame for a minute.
7. Add the mashed potatoes to the pan and mix well. Cook for a minute on low flame.
8. Add all the powdered spices namely, red chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and turmeric to the potatoes.
9. Mix well and add 2tbsp of water if required. The choka should have a thick but moist consistency.
10. Cook for 3-4 minutes on low flame and keep stirring so that the mashed potatoes don't burn.
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve aloo choka with rice or rotis.
