Colourful Chickpeas Pulav Recipe

Ingredients

  • Rice - 1 cup
  • Chickpeas - 25gms
  • Tomatoes - 2 (chopped)
  • Potato - 1 (boiled)
  • Spinach - 1 sprig (chopped)
  • Capsicum - 1 (cube)
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Cumin Seeds - 1tsp
  • Hing - ½ tsp
  • Ginger - 1 tbsp
  • Green Chilli - 2 (sliced)
  • Turmeric - 1tsp
  • Amchoor - ½ tsp
  • Garam masala - ¼ tsp
  • Water - 2 cups
  • Salt to taste
  • Bay leaf - 1

Procedure

1. You first need to soak and wash the rice well with water. Let the rice soak in the water for 15 minutes before you cook.
2. Remove the water in the chickpeas and pressure cook the peas in the cooker for 5 whistles. When done, keep it aside.
3. Now in a pan, heat the oil on a medium flame.
4. When the oil is hot, add to the pan the cumin seeds and wait for it to start cracking in the hot oil. Add in the ginger, sliced green chili, and turmeric stir and stir the ingredients for a few minutes on the flame.
5. Now add to the pan the chopped tomatoes and sprinkle the salt too over the ingredients which is in the pan.
6. When the tomatoes are cooked, add to the pan the boiled chickpeas, potatoes and water. When it comes to boil, cover the pan with a lid and let it cook for about 8 minutes over medium low heat.
7. After it is well boiled, add to the pan the rice, spinach, bay leaf and capsicum. Mix and bring the ingredients to boil. Cover the pan and let it cook for about 12-15 minutes over low heat.
8. Stir the rice in the pan slowly and let it cook.
9. When the chickpeas pulav is ready, sprinkle the amchoor powder and garam masala mix gently over the ingredients in the pan.
10. Serve alone or with side of yogurt or pickle if you want to spice it up more.
