Onion Dosa Recipe For Breakfast

Have you tried the yummy onion dosa? In South of India, dosas are very common, since it is a tasty and easy recipe to prepare in the morning. According to research, consuming any dish which consists of onions early in the morning will help you feel energetic. It is one of the greatest and healthiest veggies for both the young and old.

Kids will not like it that much though, since onions is a vegetable which has no sweet taste to it. However, the potato which is added to the onions might boost their mood to eat this yummy onion dosa. Onion Dosa Recipe For Breakfast

Serves: 3
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • Rice - 3 cups
  • Black Gram - 1 cup
  • Fenugreek Seeds - 2 tbsp
  • Potato - 200 gms (smashed)
  • Onion - 200 gms (sliced)
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder - ½ tsp
  • Red chilly powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 10 leaves
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt to taste

Procedure

  1. In a bowl, soak the rice, gram and fenugreek in water for approximately 5 hours.
  2. After 5 hours, grind them to a fine thin batter by adding little water.
  3. Now add salt to the batter and cover it for another 2 hours in order for it to ferment.
  4. In a pan with a drop of oil, fry the onions till they turn a golden brown in colour.
  5. Add to the onions, the mustard seeds and the curry leaves and fry it in the oil till they turn a little stiff.
  6. To the pan, add in the smashed potatoes, the chilli powder, turmeric and salt. Mix the ingredients which is in the pan with the help of a flat spoon.
  7. Lower the flame of the stove and let it cook well on the stove. After it is done, switch the flame off and keep aside.
  8. Now take a non stick tawa and place it on the stove. On the now medium flame, spread the oil around the tawa and wait for it to turn a little hot.
  9. Place the batter in the middle of the tawa and gently spread the batter in a circular motion on the tawa.
  10. When it is nearly cooked, place the onions and the potato ingredients in the middle of the batter, spread it out evenly and let it cook.
  11. Grease the dosa by sprinkling a little oil around the corners of the pan while it is cooking. This will help the dosa not to stick to the pan when frying.
  12. After 3 minutes or so, fold the dosa into half and serve hot.

Your onion dosa is now ready to eat. You can enjoy the flavours of this yummy dosa with coconut chutney.
