Low Cal Recipe: Multi-Grain Porridge

Ingredients

  • Wholegrain oats - 4 cups
  • Rice Flakes - 1 cup
  • Barley Flakes - 1 cup
  • Rye Flakes - 1 cup
  • Millet - 1 cup
  • Sesame Seeds - 2 tbsp ( slightly toasted)
  • Flax Seeds - 2 tsp
  • Milk / Yogurt- depends on individual ( low fat)
  • Water - 500 ml
  • Sugar to taste
  • Salt to taste

Procedure
1. Place the oats, rice flakes, barley flakes, rye flakes, millet, sesame seeds and linseeds in a large bowl. Using a spoon, stir the ingredients well. Now store these ingredients in a sealed container until you are ready to use it.
2. Now begin to prepare the whole-grain porridge. In a saucepan, place the dry mixture, salt and water. Using a spoon, stir the ingredients well with the water and allow it to soak for at least 10 minutes. Keep stirring the ingredients with a spoon until a cream like layer appears on the top of the porridge.
3. Now allow the ingredients to come to a boil over a medium flame. Do not forget to stop stirring the porridge. Now reduce the heat to low and simmer the porridge, stirring again for another 12minutes. You will soon start to see the grains are cooked. Serve with milk or yoghurt and add a little sugar to give it a sweet taste.
