How to Serve Wine ?
How to Serve Wine :
Wine
is
an
exceptional
type
of
beverage
that
can
turn
any
dinner
into
a
festive
occasion.
Whether
one
fancies
red
or
white
wine,
sparkling
or
non-sparkling,
there
are
many
different
options
when
it
comes
to
choosing
the
perfect
wine
to
accompany
a
meal.
If
one
is
having
guests
over
for
dinner
or
is
simply
planning
a
romantic
dinner
for
two,
they
may
wonder
what
the
proper
way
to
serve
wine
might
be.
The
following
will
provide
a
brief
overview
on
some
of
the
best
ways
to
serve
this
delicious
beverage.
Temperature
:
A bottle of wine opens up and releases its richest bouquet of aromas at a particular temperature. This particular temperature differs for each wine, depending on the grape variety and region. Red wines are served at room
temperature, while white wines and roses are served in chill state. More flavorful, fuller bodied white wines can be served at a slightly warmer temperature than bone dry whites. There are an impressive amount of wine coolers on the market that allow you to control the temperature for your favorite wines.
Decanting :
Wine loves air, which revives its sleeping flavors. It is recommended to open the bottle about an hour before consumption and let the wine "breathe". This ages it a year or so, and allows its flavors to mellow. Most wine lovers use a decanter, a glass pitcher with a wide opening. The increased surface area allows faster aeration. If you don't want to invest in a decanter, swirling the wine in the glass helps aerate it.
Wine Glasses :
As
important
as
wine
serving
temperatures
is
the
type
of
wine
glasses
in
which
wines
are
served.
The
shape
of
a
wine
glass
can
impact
the
taste
of
the
wine,
and
for
this
reason
different
types
of
wine
are
served
in
different
glasses.
To
ensure
it"s
only
the
wine
you
can
smell
and
taste
in
your
glass,
wash
glasses
thoroughly
and
remove
all
traces
of
detergent.
This
may
sound
pedantic,
but
a
tiny
trace
of
soap
can
affect
wine,
especially
Champagne
which
loses
its
bubbles
quickly
in
an
unrinsed
glass.
The
best
wine
glasses
have
large
bowls,
and
are
plain,
thin
and
tall,
with
long
stems
so
you
can
hold
them
at
the
bottom
rather
than
the
top.
This
helps
to
keep
your
wine
at
a
constant
temperature.
Avoid filling glasses too full. By pouring the wine in until it reaches about a third up the bowl, you'll be able to swill it around the glass, releasing the aroma as you drink. The other advantage is that chilled wine stays cold in the glass if it is topped up frequently.
Try these three small steps on the same bottle of wine and experience the big difference!
