Sohan Halwa: Traditional Bakrid Sweet

Sohan Halwa, Bakrid sweet recipe:
Ingredients

Directions to make Sohan Halwa, Bakrid sweet dish recipe:
1. Soak almonds and pistachios in a cup of warm water for 5-10 minutes separately. Peel out the skin and cut them into thin slices.
2. In a cup, add 3 tsps of milk and soak saffron strands or yellow colouring. Keep it aside.
3. Boil water in a pan and melt the sugar. After 5-7 minutes, add milk to the boiling water and then boil for 8-10 minutes. Drain the syrup (boiled solution) in a bowl through a muslin cloth.
4. Mix cornflour in water and let it dissolve. Add the mix to the syrup and cook it on medium flame. When the mixture starts becoming lump, add the saffron or yellow colouring solution to it and mix well.
5. While mixing and sauting the syrup, keep adding few tbsps of ghee to make it soft. When the mixture becomes thick and lump, put it in a greased thali and sprinkle cardamom powder and garnish with dry fruits. Cut the Sohan Halwa into small square shapes after it cools.
