Makhana Kheer: Navratri Vrat Sweet Recipe
Vasant Navratri fasting has started. It is time to prepare some special vrat (fast) dishes which are filling, healthy and delicious as well. Kheer is the most popular Indian sweet which is also prepared during Navratri vrat.
There are many ways to prepare kheer, the most common being rice kheer. However, many people who undertake vrat do not consume rice kheer. So, here is a vrat kheer recipe that you must try during Navratri fasting.
Makhana (lotus seeds) kheer is one of the most commonly prepared vrat Indian sweet dish. Makhana is healthy as it is rich in proteins and calcium. Although makhana has no flavour of its own, the aromatic spices and nuts in kheer makes it a delicious treat.
Here is a quick makhana kheer recipe which tastes yum and is creamy as well.

Ingredients
1.
Low
fat
milk-
3
cups
2.
Makhana-
1
cup
3.
Sugar-
1
½
cup
4.
Nutmeg
powder-
a
pinch
5.
Almonds-
5-6
(sliced)
6.
Cashew
nuts-
5-6
(halved)
7.
Saffron-
a
few
strands
8.
Ghee-
1tsp
Procedure
1.
Melt
ghee
in
a
pan.
Roast
the
makhanas
in
it
for
about
3-4
minutes
on
a
low
flame.
2.
Remove
from
the
flame
and
then
crush
the
makhanas
in
a
plate.
Meanwhile,
soak
saffron
strands
with
little
milk
in
a
small
bowl.
3.
Now,
boil
milk
in
a
deep
bottomed
pan.
Boil
till
it
thickens
a
little.
4.
Add
the
makhanas
and
simmer
for
about
5
minutes.
5.
Now,
add
sugar
and
stir
well.
Boil
till
the
sugar
dissolves.
Pour
the
saffron
with
milk
and
stir.
6.
Once
done,
put
the
pan
off
flame.
Garnish with almonds, cashew nuts, nutmeg powder and serve makhana kheer hot.
