Bread Halwa: For Those With A Sweet Tooth
Whenever it comes to Indian sweets we always think of gulab jamun or jalebi or carrot halwa. Are you tired of the same old Indian dessert recipes? Then here is a contemporary Indian dessert recipe that will renew your taste buds. Bread halwa is new and innovative halwa recipe that can make Indian sweet exotic for you.
Carrot halwa is the most famous halwa recipe. Moong dal halwa, sooji halwa etc are also popular among people. But bread halwa is a truly novel Indian dessert recipe. It is easy to make as bread cooks much quicker than carrots or dal. Also the ingredients for bread halwa are usually present in any Indian household. If want something easy and yet exotic to surprise your family then try out this sweet-dish at home.

Ingredients
- Milk bread- 1 loaf or pound
- Almonds- 12
- Cashew nuts- 12
- Cardamom pods- 6
- Ghee- 1 cup
- Milk- 1/2 litre
- Sugar- 1 cup
Procedure
1. Shed the bread into 1 inch pieces. You need not discard the sides of milk bread because they too are sweet.
2. Heat 1 cup of ghee in a deep bottomed pan. When it warms up, saute the almonds and cashew nuts in it.
3. When the almonds turn golden brown, strain them from the ghee.
4. Now add the shredded bread pieces to ghee. Saute it on low flame for 4-5 minutes. When the bread turns brown in colour, remove from flame.
5. Meanwhile, start boiling milk in a deep bottomed pan.
6. As the milk bubbles, keep adding spoonfuls of sugar at a time. Stir the milk to dissolve the sugar completely.
7. Leaves a couple of fried nuts to garnish the halwa, grind the rest with cardamom seeds. Use a little water to grind this in the blender.
8. Add this thick paste to the boiling milk and stir for 3-4 minutes on low flame.
9. Then add the fried bread and keep stirring. Cook for another 5-6 minutes on low flame.
Garnish the bread halwa with fried almonds and cashew nuts. You can either serve this sweet-dish hot or chill it in the refrigerator.
