Atte Ka Halwa: Navratri Recipe
Halwa is a traditional Indian sweet dish that is prepared in almost all the occasions. Be it a big or a small festival, you cannot serve a feast without adding a spoonful of halwa. There are many halwa recipes that can be made using different ingredients like wheat flour, suji (semolina), almonds or moong dal.
Navratri is starting from 16th October 2012 and this year too, many devotees will fast for nine days. Nav (nine) ratri (night) means nine nights. This Hindu festival falls twice every year; one is Chaitra or Vasant Navratri and second is Sharad Navratri. This festival of Goddess Durga is celebrated with great fervour and joy. In Gujarat, people worship Goddess Jagdamba during Navratri and in West Bengal, devotees pray to Goddess Durga.

If you are fasting this Navratri, then here is a simple atte ka halwa recipe that you can serve in your meal. Check out this Indian sweet dish recipe.
Atte ka halwa recipe:
Serves:

Preparation
time:

minutes
Cooking
time:
10-15
minutes
Ingredients
- Atta/wheat flour- 2 cups
- Sugar- 2 cups
- Cardamoms- 2-4 (powdered)
- Cashew nuts- 6-7 (halved)
- Almonds- 4-5 (halved)
- Raisins- 4-5
- Ghee- 1 cup
- Water- 1 cup
Procedure
- Heat ghee in a frying pan. When it becomes hot, add atta and mix well.
- Roast on medium flame for 4-5 minutes unless the flour looks golden brown in colour.
- When the flour turns dark golden brown, slowly pour water and then stir continuously so that atta doesn't get lumps.
- Stir for 2-3 minutes till the water is absorbed by the flour.
- Now add sugar (as per taste) and saute well. Stir continuously so that the sugar melts easily.
- Once the atte ka halwa looks cooked, put the pan off flame.
- Sprinkle powdered cardamom and dry fruits (cashew nuts, almonds and rasins).
Atte ka halwa is ready to eat. Serve it hot with bhujia or papad.
Tip: You can also add 1tbsp besan with atta and roast. If you love to have milk halwa, use milk instead of water. But, make sure the milk is boiled and evaporated otherwise the dairy smell will spoil the taste of halwa.
