Steamed Dal Dumplings: Mother's Day Recipe
Of the many recipes that I have learnt from my mom, steamed dal dumplings are one of the most delicious and simple ones. Everyone in our family is fond of these steamed dal dumplings. They taste heavenly when served with coconut chutney and a steaming cup of coffee.
Steamed dal dumplings are an excellent item for snacks and can also be served for breakfast. So, why not start Mother's day by cooking this delicious and healthy snack for your mom. Nothing can be more relaxing than sitting on the balcony with your mom chit-chatting over coffee and these dumplings. I am sure she will cherish those moments for the rest of her life.

So, check out the recipe for steamed dal dumplings and make this Mother's Day special for your mom.
Serves: 3-4
Preparation time: 3 hours
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Ingredients
- Toor dal- 1 cup
- Grated coconut- 1/2 cup
- Green chillies- 2-3 (chopped)
- Hing or asafoetida- a pinch
- Jeera powder- 1/2 tsp
- Pudina/mint leaves- 5-6
- Ginger- 1tsp (finely chopped)
- Curry leaves- 6-7 (finely chopped)
- Salt- as per taste
- Water- 2 cups
Procedure
- Soak toor dal in 2 cups of water for about 3 hours.
- After 3 hours drain the water from the dal and grind coarsely along with coconut, green chillies, jeera and curry leaves in a mixer. Don't add any water while grinding.
- Make sure you don't grind the dal into a paste that is too smooth.
- Add hing, and salt and mix well.
- Make about 2 inches sized round/oval dumplings of the dal mixture with your hands.
- Place these dumplings in a steamer and steam the dumplings for about 12-15 minutes.
- Once done, transfer the dumplings slowly to a serving plate and serve hot with coconut chutney or any other side dish of your choice.
