Tandoori Prawns Recipe

Tandoori Prawns are of most ordered tandoori recipes in India. Although any recipe coming out of the tandoor belongs specifically to North India but this easy seafood recipe is popular even along the coasts where prawns are more readily available. Tandoori prawns can actually be called an improvised version of a typical tandoori recipe.

Traditionally Indian prawns dishes are cooked in curries as specialty of coastal cuisines. However this spicy prawns recipe is a cosmopolitan addition to the hoard of tandoori recipes. It is for the new age Indian who likes the best of all cuisines be it Indian prawns from the coast or a special masala cooked in the Northern mountains.

Ingredients For Tandoori Prawns:

1. Prawns 10-15 (with the tail)
2. Curd 50 grams
3. Onions 2 (cut into 4 halves)
4. Tandoori masala 2 tablespoons
5. Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon
6. Turmeric 1 pinch
7. Ginger garlic paste 1 tablespoon
8. Ground pepper 1 teaspoon
9. Green chillies (minced)
10. Oil 1 tablespoon
11. Salt as per taste

Procedure For Tandoori Prawns:

  • First of all you need to have prawns with the tail so that they are whole and don't disintegrate. Remove the shell but leave the tail intact.
  • Make a marinade by beating together curd, tandoori masala, red chilli powder, ginger garlic paste, pepper and green chillies. Marinate the prawns for about 10 to15 minutes.
  • Sprinkle a pinch of turmeric and salt on the prawns and brush them with oil. Do not dip in oil because it will wash off the marinade.
  • Now arrange the prawns and onions in a heat resistant pan and put it on the high rack of the microwave.
  • Set the oven on combination mode with a microwave temperature of 640 degrees and grill.
  • You need not pre-heat the oven to cook prawns because they cook easily. Grill it for about 6 minutes on one side and 5 on the over.

You can garnish Tandoori Prawns with chopped coriander leaves and raita.
