Low Fat Desi Chicken Masala Recipe

Low Fat Desi Chicken Masala Recipe

Ingredients

  • Chicken- 1kg (cut in medium sized pieces)

For the marinade

  • Low-fat yogurt- 1 cup
  • Onion paste- 1tbsp
  • Ginger-garlic paste- 1tbsp
  • Green chilli paste- 1tsp
  • Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
  • Salt- as per taste

For Gravy

  • Onion- 4 (minced)
  • Ginger- 1 medium sized piece (minced)
  • Garlic- 10 cloves (minced)
  • Turmeric powder- 1tsp
  • Red chilli powder- 1tsp
  • Coriander powder- 1tbsp
  • Cumin powder- 1tbsp
  • Pepper powder- 1tsp
  • Garam masala powder- 1tsp
  • Cumin seeds- 1tsp
  • Bay leaves- 2
  • Coriander seeds- 2tsp (crushed)
  • Sugar- ½ tsp
  • Salt- as per taste
  • Oil- 2tbsp
  • Warm water- 1 ½ cups
  • Coriander leaves- 2tbsp (chopped)

Procedure

  1. Wash and clean the chicken pieces thoroughly with water.
  2. Marinate the diced chicken with turmeric powder, green chilli paste, yogurt, onion paste, ginger-garlic paste and salt for 30 minutes.
  3. After 30 minutes heat oil in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds, crushed coriander seeds and bay leaves. Fry for a minute.
  4. Then add minced onion and fry for 4-5 minutes on medium flame till it turns light brown in colour.
  5. Then one by one add ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Now add the marinated chicken and mix well.
  7. Add cumin powder, coriander powder, salt, sugar, pepper powder and cook for about 7-8 minutes till the water of the yogurt evaporates completely.
  8. Now add water and mix well.
  9. Close the lid of the pressure cooker and cook on low flame. Wait for 3 whistles to blow.
  10. Once done, switch off the flame and wait for the steam to come out completely.
  11. Once the steam comes out completely, open the lid and add garam masala powder. Mix well.
  12. Then garnish the chicken curry with chopped coriander leaves and serve.
