Chettinad Style Pepper Chicken Recipe

Chettinad recipes are very popular in the Southern states of India. It is a region of the Sivaganga district of southern Tamil Nadu . The place is not only famous for its spicy delicacies but also for the Chettinad sarees.

Chettinad Style Pepper Chicken Recipe

Serves: 3
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • Chicken- 250gms (cut into small or medium sized pieces)
  • Ginger garlic paste- 1tsp
  • Green chillies- 2-3 (slit)
  • Onion- 1 (chopped)
  • Tomatoes- 2 (chopped)
  • Cinnamon- 1 inch
  • Cloves- 2
  • Coriander powder- 1tbsp
  • Cumin seeds- 1tsp
  • Cardamom- 2
  • Crushed pepper corns- 2
  • Cumin seeds powder- a pinch
  • Mustard seeds- ½ tsp
  • Red chilli powder- 1tsp
  • Salt- as per taste
  • Oil- 2tbsp
  • Curry leaves- 2 springs

Procedure

  • Heat oil in a frying pan. Season with mustard, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and cumin seeds. When the seeds start to splutter, add curry leaves, ginger garlic paste, chopped onions and green chillies.
  • Saute for around 2 minutes on a medium flame. Add turmeric powder. Once the onion becomes translucent, add tomatoes and mix well. Cook on a medium flame for another 3 minutes
  • Sprinkle coriander powder, red chilli powder, cumin seeds powder and salt. Mix well and cook till the tomatoes become soft and looks cooked.
  • Now add the chicken pieces into the pan and mix well. Cover and cook over a medium flame for 15-20 minutes till the chicken is cooked.
  • Once the chicken is cooked, add the crushed pepper corns and mix well. Put pan off the flame.

Chettinad style pepper chicken is ready to eat. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve this hot side dish with rice.
