Mother's Day Special Recipe: Dum Posto
Mother's day is an opportunity when you can make your mom feel special and what can be a better gift to show your appreciation for her than to cook something delicious. We will give you some really delicious recipe ideas which will help you to please your mom this Mother's day.
Dum posto is a special recipe from my mom's kitchen. She prepares this on special occasions.This recipe is made with posto or poppy seeds which taste extremely delicious. Posto is used in generous amount in this dish since we Bengalis are very fond of this ingredient. In this recipe the poppy seeds are first made into delicious koftas and then cooked in a thick spicy gravy.

Ingredients
For Koftas
- Posto (poppy seeds)- 6tbsp
- Onion- 1 (finely chopped)
- Ginger- 1tsp (finely chopped)
- Green chillies- 1tsp (finely chopped)
- Eggs- 2
- Salt- as per taste
- Oil- for deep frying
- Water- ½ cup
For gravy
- Onion Paste- 4tbsp
- Ginger-garlic paste- 1tbsp
- Yogurt- ½ cup
- Turmeric powder- 1tsp
- Red chilli powder- 2tsp
- Jeera (cumin) powder- 2tsp
- Dhaniya (coriander) powder- 2tsp
- Garam masala powder- ½ tsp
- Cumin seeds- 1tsp
- Bay leaf- 1
- Salt- as per taste
- Oil- 2tbsp
- Water- 1 cup
- Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish)- 2tsp (chopped)
Procedure
- Grind posto or poppy seeds with half a cup of water in a mixer into fine paste.
- Transfer this paste in a mixing bowl. Add chopped onions, green chillies, ginger and salt. Mix well.
- Now break the eggs slowly and mix well with the posto mixture with a spoon.
- Make round koftas out of this mixture with your hands.
- Now heat the oil in a deep pan. Fry these prepared koftas for about 7-8 minutes on medium heat until they turn golden brown.
- Once done, transfer the fried koftas on paper towels to drain the excess oil.
- Now heat two tablespoon of oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds, bay leaf and fry for about a minute.
- Add onion paste and fry for 3 minutes. Once the onion turns golden brown, add ginger-garlic paste and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Now add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, salt and saute for 5 minutes on medium flame.
- Whisk the yogurt and pour it into the pan. Mix well and cook for another 3 minutes.
- Add water, garam masala powder and cook for 2 more minutes till the gravy thickens.
- Now add the fried koftas to the gravy. Cook for about a minute and then turn off the heat.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve with steamed rice.
