Homemade Chicken Soup
Origin of Chicken Soup
Chicken soup is a popular dish around the world. It has been consumed for centuries and is believed to have originated in Ancient China. This soup was traditionally made with chicken, onions, and spices. Over time, different cultures have added their own ingredients to the basic recipe.

Ingredients
The basic ingredients for chicken soup include chicken, onions, garlic, celery, carrots, parsley leaves, peppercorns and bay leaves. You can also add other vegetables such as potatoes or mushrooms if desired. Salt and pepper can be added to taste.
Cooking Instructions
To make chicken soup start by heating some oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the onions and garlic and cook until they are softened (about 5 minutes). Add the carrots and celery and cook for another 5 minutes before adding the chicken pieces. Cook until the chicken is cooked through (about 10 minutes). Add the parsley leaves, peppercorns and bay leaves then pour in enough water to cover all the ingredients.
Calorie Information & Health Benefits
One serving of homemade chicken soup contains about 150 calories per cup. It is high in protein from the chicken as well as vitamins A & C from all the vegetables used in it. The broth also helps keep you hydrated which can help boost your immune system.
Other Tips
When making this dish it's important to use low-sodium broth or stock so that you don't end up with a salty tasting soup. You can also adjust other seasonings such as adding more pepper or herbs like thyme or oregano if desired.
