Lip liner

It is important to pay special attention to the lips during make up as it is the most important focal point of the face. Lip liner is a great make up tool as lining the lips creates subtle definition and perfects the shape of the lips. Here are some tips on how to apply lip liner to get the desired kissable lips with the right lip pencil shades.

Tips

  1. Before applying lip liner make sure you have the sharpest of points. Put your lip pencil in the fridge for a few minutes before sharpening it or try an old Hollywood trick. Use an emery board, gently file either side of your freshly sharpened pencil for a razor-sharp edge.
  2. Outline your lips with lip pencil before you apply lipstick or gloss if you don't want your lipstick to smudge
  3. Be careful not to over draw the lip line as it will appear harsh and unnatural. Apply your lip liner exactly on top of your natural lip line.
  4. Avoid colors that are more than one shade darker or lighter.
  5. If you don't have the steadiest of hands while outlining the shape of your mouth rest your fourth and little finger on your chin for support. To ensure that your lip line is even and balanced, here is a sequence that you can follow, firstly outline the center edge of your upper lip with lip liner. Then move to the center of your bottom lip and draw a short, horizontal line. Now carefully line the corners of your mouth. Lastly connect the lines drawn at the top and bottom center of your lips with the lines drawn at the corners of your mouth.
  6. If you have thin lips, use light shades to make them appear fuller. Define the lip using the neutral lip pencil from slightly beyond your natural lip line and then apply lipstick covering up lip defining line.
  7. To make lips look fuller, line the lips with a pencil and then blend the edges with a sponge applicator. Apply a gloss or petroleum jelly over it.
  8. If your upper lip is too thin or does not have a good shape, outline it with the lip liner similar to your lipstick and in the center portion, draw a second line giving it the precise shape using a brown pencil. Apply color including the brown line. This will make your lips look fuller.
  9. In order to hide lip lines, apply lipstick vertically.
  10. Remember your lip liner should not actually be visible once your lipstick is applied. So, choose your lip liner carefully.
