Who Knew? These 5 Everyday Habits Are Secretly Harming Your Skin
Glowing skin is an achievable task! From a dedicated skincare routine to clean eating, you may be doing your best to reflect a skin that mirrors your efforts. But, sometimes, despite the genuine labour, common skincare woes like breakouts, irritation, or dullness show up. Wonder why it happens? We know the possible reasons!
Here are 5 skin wreckers that may be restraining you from flaunting spotless skin!
Touching Your Face Repeatedly
You may not realize it, but you graze your face throughout the day. From resting your face in your hands to scrolling on the phone, every touch leads to bacterial dirt and oil breeding. This habit results in breakouts, clogged pores, and inflamed skin.
Your skin doesn't need to be further contaminated by the innumerable germ-filled surfaces that your hands come into contact with. The remedy? Recognize the habit. To prevent such acts, consider keeping your hands busy or perhaps putting a subtle alert on your phone.
Hot Water Use Or Over-Cleansing
Yes, cleansing is necessary, but overdoing it is never good for the skin. Washing the face too often or applying harsh cleansers will strip away the skin's natural oils. Same with using hot water, which weakens the skin shield and leads to sensitivity and dryness.
Ideally, cleanse your face twice a day, morning and night, using a gentle cleanser or face wash. Lukewarm water is a better choice than hot water and pat dry the face with clean towel. For oily and acne-prone skin, you may feel the need for extra cleansing, but moderation work wonders!
Neglecting Phone Screen And Pillowcase
Your phone and your pillowcase are the two objects that your face is frequently rubbed against. Your pillow becomes a breeding ground for breakouts when your pillowcases are dirty because they retain perspiration, oil, and residue from skincare and hair products. Likewise, your phone accumulates bacteria, sebum, and cosmetics during the day and transmits them to the face with each call.
Refresh the pillowcases no less than once a week, especially if your skin is prone to acne. Think about using a silk pillowcase instead, since it is kinder to the skin. Use alcohol-based wipes or microfiber towels soaked in a mild solution to clean your phone's screen every day.
Skipping Sunblock Indoors
If you just use SPF on sunny afternoons or beach excursions, you're letting your skin be exposed majority of the time. Because UV rays can pass through glass and clouds, solar damage can occur whether you're indoors near glass or conducting errands on a gloomy day.
In addition to preventing tanning, sunscreen is an effective defence against pigmentation, early aging, and even cancer of the skin. Regardless of the season or your plans, do your skincare routine by applying a broad-spectrum SPF of a minimum of 30 every morning.
Layering More Products
Beauty essentials, especially those with effective ingredients like retinol or vitamin C, require enough time to sink in and work effectively.
Allow the products to absorb for at least 40-60 seconds before the application of another product. This simple switch allows efficacy and results in supple and balanced skin!
