How To Apply Makeup On Oily Skin?
Having oily or dry skin comes with its own set of problems. Oily skin can get acne, pimples, and other skin infections. It's annoying to deal with excess oil.
Many people with oily skin avoid moisturisers and creams - that's not a good idea, since it can damage the skin and make it more oily. When there's no external moisture, skin pores secrete more oil.

To prevent excess oil and keep your skin hydrated, use an oil-free moisturiser or cream. Washing your face too much isn't recommended for oily skin, because it makes it dry. This may stimulate the skin's natural oil glands to produce more oil [1][2].
You may find it difficult to apply makeup over oily skin, especially if your complexion appears shiny.
Lucky for you, there are steps that can be taken to ensure your makeup stays in place even if you have oily skin.
Tips To Apply Makeup To Oily Skin
Throughout this article, we will explain how to keep makeup on oily skin for a long period of time, as well as some tips on how to care for an oily complexion.
1. Make sure your face is clean
Before applying makeup, wash your face with a face-wash containing salicylic acid. Pat dry and apply an oil-free moisturiser. Also, wash your hands before washing your face, as your hands' oil may enter your pores.
2. Use an oil-free moisturiser
Before applying foundation, apply an oil-free moisturiser to your skin. Let it sit for a few minutes before applying the makeup.
3. Before applying foundation, apply a face powder
Before applying the foundation, use a light layer of powder on your face. A light layer of powder can help your foundation last a lot longer as well as absorb excess oil on your face by filling in the pores on your skin.

4. Choose the right foundation
When you have oily skin, you should always use a mineral-based foundation that does not contain any oil. There are many types of foundation available and you should choose the one that suits your skin type best.
5. Blot first before applying powder
Lastly, you should blot your face before applying makeup to your face, to allow the oil to be absorbed. Once the oil has been absorbed, apply face powder to the face. This will ensure that the makeup stays on for a long time.
6. For long-lasting eyeshadow
In order to keep your makeup on your eyes (and on your eyelids if you have oily skin) for as long as possible, you should avoid applying concealers to your eyelids. Instead, you should use an eyelid primer or apply powder before you apply eyeshadow.

Extra tip:
Use a face mask
2 or 3 hours before applying makeup, apply a face mask made with fuller's earth (multani mitti) or kaolin on your face. When the face mask is completely dry, you should wash your face because it may draw too much oil from your skin later. It absorbs excess oil from your skin and keeps it dry [3].
