Homemade Hair Conditioners

By Super

Every woman dreams for silky, bouncy and voluminous healthy hair. But none of us can rush to a spa or hair care center every time to fix bad hair. Nor can one afford to spend a fortune on it. But there's nothing here to panic about. There are limitless options available at your very own house that can work wonders to make your hair soft, supple and silky.

So, a conditioner here plays an important role. As cold creams or moisturisers are used to soften your skin, similarly conditioners are used to make your hair soft and glowing. It is also used to de-tangle your hair soon after washing.

Before You Start With A Conditioner

Homemade Hair Conditioners

It is advised not to use a conditioner on the scalp because the root of the hair has a tendency to absorb moisture and oil from the surface. This causes the hair to turn oily or dry sooner which further causes dandruff and hair fall eventually. Start applying conditioner from two inches above the scalp by covering the entire area and moving towards the tips.

How To Apply A Conditioner Correctly

How will you get to know if you are using a conditioner correctly? We give you a test for the same. Once you are done with shampooing your hair, run your fingers over the surface of your wet hair. If it makes a "screaking" sound then your hair are ready to get conditioned.

Make sure your hair is wet before applying a conditioner. Once you apply the conditioner, keep it for about 5 minutes. Then rinse off with cold water for best results.

In-House Treatments To Condition Your Hair

Your Kitchen and garden could be of great help to nourish, protect and add sheen to your hair. Here are few natural and homemade conditioners that will bounce your hair to glory-

1. Henna and Eggs are the best conditioner one could ever use. Mix one cup of henna with half a cup of water (beetroot juice can be easily used instead of water), 1 egg (replace with curd if you don't like the stench of egg), and mix them to form a slightly thick paste. Leave it overnight and apply it your hair the next morning. Leave it for 1-2 hours and then wash your hair properly. This acts as a natural conditioner and should be followed once a month.
2. Soak half a cup of methi seeds in water for about 1 hour. Then grind it to a smooth paste and apply it on your hair. Keep it for about an hour and wash it.
3. For a healthy hair one must also oil it often. Gently massage your hair with warm coconut oil or amla oil. It is the best treatment you could start-off with to get rid of dandruff, split ends and hair fall.
4. Take half a cup of amla powder, and add two tablespoons of castor/coconut oil and one full egg. Make into a smooth mixture and apply on the hair and the scalp. Leave on for about 30 minutes before shampooing.
5. Extract some aloe vera gel and mix it with honey. Apply this on scalp and leave it for about twenty minutes and rinse off properly.

Apart from conditioning your hair regularly, make sure that you are not using hot-irons and blow-dryers often. Just shine with your conditioner!!
