One of the causes of hair loss in men could be helmets. It has long been debated and found that many men believe that wearing helmets is responsible in some way for hair fall in men. It has not been proven by scientific research but it a definitely a hypothesis worth exploring. Hair fall in men has become an area of great concern due to its premature occurrences these days. How many times have we misjudged the age of a person because of premature balding tendencies.

Earlier it was believed that the primary cause of hair loss in men was heredity. If your father was bald then you would have be mentally prepared for it. This theory does not hold good any more. We regularly come across sons of fathers with a head full of hair balding! It is alarming because it affects a man's self confidence.

The Miscellaneous Causes of Hair In Men Today: It is mainly lifestyle hazards that lead to hair fall in men. Some of the more prominent ones are;

  • Stress: we have ample amounts of it our life now a days.
  • Lack of time: You need to care for your hair just like you care for the grass in your lawn. If you don't both will die out. In our hectic lives where do we have the time practice hair remedies. We can't even find time to oil or wash our hair weekly!
  • Dandruff in Men: Some experts believe that men are more prone to dandruff problems than women. This is due to some specific male hormonal secretions.

So where do helmets fit in? Actually every where.

Helmets and Hair Loss:

  • Firstly we have to understand that helmets on there own don't have anything that is harmful for your hair but combined with the above causes and a few unique conditions it could lead to hair fall.
  • Blocking out air: Your hair like your skin needs to breathe. Your scalp too has pores that need air and helmets cut out this air. If your scalp feels claustrophobic then it retaliates by shedding hair.
  • Perspiration: When your head sweats inside the helmet and the sweat accumulates in the pores then it will weaken hair roots causing hair loss in men.
  • Dandruff: Men have dandruff problems anyway and if are one of them the for you helmets will aggravate it. Wearing helmets will make your head like a covered pot and your dry itchy scalp will be more scratchy.

What can be done?

  • Even if helmets are one of the causes of hair loss in men you cannot abandon them because the alternative is instant death. Helmets are necessary protective gear that you absolutely cannot shed.
  • Wash hair regularly; every alternate day if possible.
  • Tie a bandana or handkerchief around your head before you wear the helmet.
  • If you have to go for a very long drive then take breaks and give your hair some air.
