The beauty industry is ever-growing. There are so many products launched in the market everyday. There are products for all your skin problems and requirements.

Most of the beauty products we buy are for the sheer experience of using them. You may want to buy that newly launched bottle of shampoo just because it looks good and smells wonderful, although your old shampoo still does a great job. That high-end bottle of serum may be way out of your budget but it promises wrinkle-free skin. That over-priced cream is said to be very effective on acne.

Beauty scams

Some of the products are great and work wonderfully on your skin. But not all products in the market are effective. There are many products which are advertised in a great way but do absolutely nothing. They may be marketed as time-savers or miracle-products. Here is a list of such products which can be eliminated from your make-up and beauty regime, saving you ample amount of time and money.

1) Dry Shampoos -

1) Dry Shampoos -

Dry shampoos are advertised to be great way to refresh your hair when you don't have time to wash it. Dry shampoo may be useful for people with oily scalp but otherwise you can definitely do without it. The residue build-up of dry shampoo is hard to get rid of. If you find that your hair is smelly or greasy, just dab some talc on it. It does a good job.

2) Anti-cellulite Creams -

2) Anti-cellulite Creams -

Cellulite or extra fat can be found on most parts of the body and we feel that the easiest way to get rid of it is by using anti-cellulite creams. They promise to remove excess fat and make the area look slim. Most of these creams contain caffeine which increases the blood flow to that area and do nothing more. The best way of removing cellulite still remains the hardest way - Exercise.

3) Fairness Creams -

3) Fairness Creams -

Fairness creams are extremely popular in our country because of the obsession for fair skin. But the skin tone cannot be changed by using topical creams. The colour of the skin is determined by melanin production in the inner layers of our skin, which most of the times is hereditary and topical application of creams can never alter it. Also, most of the fairness products contain bleach which can harm the skin in the long run.

4) Sunscreen With High SPF -

4) Sunscreen With High SPF -

The sun protection factor of a sunscreen determines the amount of protection it provides from the sun's rays. Most people think that the higher the SPF, the greater the protection. The important thing to remember is that the protection a sunscreen with SPF 15 provides will be same to the sunscreen with SPF 30. It is just an advertising gimmick. Reapplication and even application of the sunscreen is what will provide maximum protection from the sun, rather than a sunscreen with high SPF.

5) Salicylic Acid/ AHA Cleansers -

5) Salicylic Acid/ AHA Cleansers -

Salicylic acid and AHA cleansers are great for people with acne. However a cleanser with these ingredients will do little to eliminate acne as they do not get ample time to work on the skin. Hence a face wash with these ingredients may not effectively clear breakouts. Using a cream containing salicylic acid or AHA will much more effective as the ingredients will sit on your skin and help eliminate the problem.

6) Eye Creams -

6) Eye Creams -

The most important duty of a cream is to moisturise the skin. But a cream to moisturise just a specific part of the face may be a scam after all. Though the skin around your eyes is thinner and more delicate, the cream that you use for the rest of your face may just be good enough for your under eyes too.

7) Colour-protection Shampoo -

These shampoos which promise to keep your hair colour for longer may contain more chemicals than regular shampoos. They also contain additives and hair dyes in smaller doses which will completely damage and dry out your hair. The best way to preserve hair colour is to shampoo it as less often as possible.

8) Split End Removers -

Many serums in the market promise to get rid of dry split ends. They may repair the split ends temporarily but they may not be able to totally get rid of them. The best way to eliminate split ends is to chop them off.
