Bathing is important for hygiene as well as for relaxation. Water is nature's cleansing element and it is a potent elixir that can lift our spirits. Showering is our go-to cleansing routine in today's hectic lifestyle, but once in a while, one needs to unwind relax in a warm bath infused with ingredients that can make the bath an invigorating and rejuvenating experience.
A bath soak not only relaxes, but it is also very good for the skin. The ancient Roman spas were built around the concept of bathing. People came from all over the world to experience healing and transforming qualities of infused water.

Today we can't all go to Rome or the city of Bath, but we can get that experience in comforts of our own home. No, you don't need an expensive Jacuzzi for this, but all you need is a bathtub and some easily available ingredients to draw up the most refreshing baths that you may know.
Soaking in these baths will enliven your spirits and cleanse your skin to reveal the natural glow that hides beneath the dull toxin-loaded epidermis.

The Mughal Soak
If you wish to be transported to the majestic Mughal era and feel like an erstwhile royal, this is the bath for you. You will need dried rose petals (200 g), natural rose essential oil (2-3 ml), powdered milk (200 g), Epsom salt (100 g), sandalwood essential oil (2-3 ml), saffron (4-5 g).
For purely aesthetic reasons, you can add a few drops of natural or food grade pink colour. Mix these all together and store in an airtight jar.
When drawing a bath, add some honey along with the rose and milk bath soak mixture, and enjoy! It will brighten your skin and soften calluses.

The Summer Soak
This citrus scented bath soak is ideal for summer months. The green tea helps in removing toxins from the skin.
What you need to make this soak at home is dried orange peel (250 g), green tea (100 g), Epsom salt (100 g), orange essential oil (1-2 ml). Grind the green tea leaves and dried orange peel together.
Mix in the Epsom salt and the orange essential oil. Optionally, you may add a few drops of food grade orange colour. Mix well and store in an airtight jar.

Mint Extravaganza
This is one of the best and refreshing bath soak recipes for all you tired souls. Here is what you need to make it at home.
Dried peppermint leaves (200 g), Epsom salt (100 g), pink salt (75 g), natural camphor (10 g), peppermint essential oil (2-3 ml) and green or blue food grade colour ( 1-2 ml) (optional).
Grind the peppermint leaves and natural camphor in a mortar. You can do it in an electric grinder as well, but the pestle and mortar will help infuse the leaves with camphor better. Process this mixture with pink salt in a food processor.
Transfer it to a bowl and add the Epsom salt, the peppermint essential oil, and the food colour. Mix thoroughly and store in an airtight jar. Add 2-3 tbsp to your bath. This soak will soothe tired skin and freshen up the pores.

The Golden Soak
The golden bath soak is an antiseptic and healing bath soak. To make it at home you need powdered turmeric (50 g), powdered sandalwood (20 g), powdered oatmeal (200 g), dried lemon zest (50 g), and lemon essential oil (2-3 ml).
Mix all the ingredients together and store in an airtight container. Add 2-3 tbsp of this mixture to a warm bath. Soak for at least half an hour.
The turmeric might leave a yellow stain on your skin, so it is best to take this bath at night. In this way, you can remove the stain in the next shower and give the turmeric a chance to heal your skin overnight.

Strawberries And Cream
Strawberries are rich in antioxidants and cream is nourishing. You can bring this wholesome goodness to your bath. To do so, first, you will require some dehydrated strawberries.
It is best if you can find them at the market, but as they are not that easily available, here is how you can dehydrate them at home. Hull the strawberries and cut them in half. Place them in a warm oven at gas mark 1.
Keep the strawberries in the oven overnight. Wake up to sweet-smelling dried strawberries! Coming back to the soak, you will need powdered milk (200 g), Epsom salt (100 g), strawberry fragrance oil (2-3 ml) and the dried strawberries (150 g).
Mix all the ingredients together and store. Use 2-3 tbsp of the mixture for each bath.

White Serenity
This simple bath is calming and uplifting. You need Epsom salt, sea salt and jasmine essential oil. Mix these together and store. When you take a bath, add 2 tbsp of this mixture along with some fresh jasmine flowers and unwind in it with a glass of wine.

Lavender Luxury
Lavender has a number of benefits for the skin. It has antiseptic and anti-acne properties. It improves complexion and helps in revealing the natural glow of the skin. To make this lavender bath, you will need dried lavender blossoms (100 g), coarse sea salt (50 g), Epsom salt (50 g), buttermilk powder (100 g), lavender essential oil (2-3 ml), food grade violet colour (1-2 ml) (optional). Crush the blossoms with the coarse salt and mix with all the other ingredients. Use 2-3 tbsp of this mixture for each bath.

The Moroccan Bath
Bring the Moroccan spa to your comfy abode. You require ghassoul clay powder (200 g), Epsom salt (100 g), sea salt (50 g), argan oil (20 ml) and fragrance oil of your choice ( 1-2 ml). Mix all the ingredients and store. Use 1-2 tbsp of this mixture for each bath.

The Ayurvedic Bath
Ayurveda has numerous recipes for therapeutic and beauty baths. Each recipe has a therapeutic quality, as ayurvedic physicians believed beauty to arise from within.
Many of these baths are elaborate procedures and since they cannot be followed on a day-to-day basis, a simplified version is being given here.
You will need gram flour (50 g), turmeric powder (20 g), neem powder (20 g), fenugreek powder (4 g), amla powder (15 g), Kumkumadi Taila (5 ml), dried ginger powder (5 g) and fragrance oil of your choice. Mix all the ingredients and keep it aside. Each bath requires 3-4 tablespoons of this mixture.
All the recipes mentioned above will last you for about ten baths. They keep for about two weeks. Since these recipes are made with all natural ingredients, it is best to make the batches as you would require it.
