DIY Natural Nail Paint Remover

We love our quirky nail paints, vibrant hues merged with eccentric designs, topped with pearls or tiny metal beads to add a dash of punch to that already zany nail art; there is no limit to it.
While our nail paints change with the changing seasons and moods, there is a certain detrimental aspect to it that we tend to overlook, namely, nail paint remover.
To put it in simple words, your nail polish remover is dangerous. Here is why. Nail paint removers contain a solvent chemical called acetone, which works to thin the paint.

Exposure to this chemical in high concentration for a prolonged period of time is known to cause headache and slowing down of vital organ functions like heart rate, respiration or metabolism.
And the worse of all, discolouration of your natural nail shade from pearlish white to faded yellow. Not just that, it also makes your nails brittle and dry. And we haven't even got down to other toxic chemicals in your nail paint yet.
It got us thinking, and researching, if there is a natural alternative that will do the job of removing the nail paint, which won't put your nails at the risk of cancer and also nourish them. And voila!

Here is a DIY natural nail polish remover that will work like a charm.
The main ingredients in our recipe are vinegar and lemon juice. Being acidic in nature it will break down the nail paint without stripping your nails of its natural sheen.
Ingredients Required
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
- Cotton ball

Method Of Preparation & Application
- In a bowl, mix freshly squeezed lemon juice with apple cider vinegar. With a spatula, whisk until all the components combine well.
- Immerse all your fingers in the solution for 30 to 40 seconds. Once the nail colour starts to break down, using a cotton ball slowly remove the nail paint. If any residue is left, repeat the process.
- Once done, rub your nails with almond oil to soothe and nourish them.
Alternatively, you can also use diluted alcohol to remove stubborn nail paints. Alcohol has anti-bacterial properties that can work like a charm on your nails.
