Here are a few things that will help you maintain long nails. Make sure you follow this process and adopt it as part of your routine.

Remove the polish
Your routine towards healthy nails begins with removing the existing nail polish on your hands. Let’s assume a case where you don’t have any paint on your nails. Even in that case, it would be good if you just run the remover along your nails. It is just a process of cleaning the nails from the dirt and oil that may have accumulated. Once you are done with the remover, you should wash your hands with water.

Tidy the nails
After you have cleaned the nails using remover, you should begin with tidying the nails. Apply a hand moisturising lotion on your hands. Once the nails become smooth, you should use the end of the file to remove the dirt hidden underneath the nails. This way the nails would get a bit clean and tidy. Sometimes, long nails can cause brittleness. You should chip off the brittle ends using a nail cutter. This is also done when you want to make the nails on all fingers appear even. Once you have them at one level, you should file them either round or square, whichever shape you like. This will prevent your long nails from breaking or getting chipped off.

Cuticle care
Your first step towards cuticle care is to run cuticle cream along your cuticles and allow it to settle. Next, you should push back the cuticles and trim them a bit. Make sure you trim the cuticles only when it is absolute necessary. You should also try and remove the dead skin around the nails with the cuticle cutter. This way you have cared for the cuticles and helped maintain long nails from breaking.

Buffing the nails
Once your cuticles have been cared for, your next step is to buff the nails. This will smoothen the nail and make it appear better. Now, you should wipe of the area along the nails to make sure there is no remnant of your cuticle cream or lotion on the nails.

Paint your nails
Once you are done caring for your nails, you should apply some nail polish. Make sure the polish strengthens the area of your nails and helps it grow evenly.

Prevent the chips
Finally, when trying to maintain long nails, you should ideally prevent chipping off of the nails. You should first apply base coat such that nails don’t stain due to nail paint. On top of that, you should apply your favorite colour and top it with another coat.
