Brutal fashion

By Super Admin

Looking beautiful has no boundaries and in the mad name of fashion , it is highly brutal and fickle- minded . Fashion changes by the minute. It can make you look drop dead gorgeous and in the next minute , you might look grotesque if you do not move with time. Fashion is strange. It has many facets to it. People in the materialistic name of fashion have even killed living creatures . Animals have been victims of fashion . Fur and leather is the most widely used material for clothing , accessories and shoes. They have been killed mercilessly just to make us look pretentiously good. Little do we realize that we look their descendants and trust me on this, it's so uncool to look an animal. Just imagine someone complimenting you , 'Hey ! You look like a cow .' Now that's embarrassing beyond belief.

;

Most leather is made from the skins of cows, buffaloes, goats, pigs and sheep, but leather is also made from horses, pigs, alligators, snakes and other animals, as well as from dogs and cats killed in some parts of Asia. When you buy leather, you cannot tell from where it came from or what animal it was made from. Dog skin will not be labeled 'dog', for example , and Indian skins can be made into garments in Italy and then labeled 'made in Italy'. You will never really know.

Many of the Indian animals used for leather are so sick and injured by the time they arrive at the abattoir that they must be dragged inside. Others have hot chilli peppers and tobacco rubbed into their eyes, and their tail bones are painfully twisted and broken, joint by joint, to make them stand up and keep moving after they collapse. Once inside their throats are slit. Some have their legs hacked off or are skinned while being still alive.

In India, leather referred to as a 'co-product' of the meat industry by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, is actually valued more as an export than meat is. Buying leather directly supports the cruelty of the transport of the animals and the misery of the abattoir. When dairy cow's milk production wanes, their skin is also made into leather , and their offspring are often poisoned or starved in order to be used for high - priced calf skin.
Be ethical to these innocent creatures who provide no harm to you. Now if you are eager to make a difference by not using leather but still like the texture of leather, there is some good news. Pleather is an effective alternative to leather. Luckily, it's easy to find wonderful alternatives to skin as these days-dozens of hip designers and brands, including Paul Frank, Kenneth Cole, Dr. Martens, Skechers, offer stylish leather-free fashions from belts and bags to shoes and jackets. Some discount shoe and variety stores on streets like commercial street in Bangalore, Linking Road in Mumbai , Gol Market in Delhi offer especially large selections.

Finding the perfect vegan fashion accessories is a cinch. Many of the hottest belts, bags, wallets are animal-free.

It seems that designers have finally realized that synthetic materials - like elastic, canvas, bead, cloth, jute, plastic and pleather - are far more versatile and long-lasting than the skin of a dead animal. Jayasimha , coordinator of campaigns and legal affairs for People for the ethical treatment of Animals gives us his pick of animal friendly stores. They are AND by Anita Dongre ,Baggit, Mad-O-Wot, the Sapna Bhavnani Parlour in Mumbai ,Pepe Shoppers' Stop ,United Colors of Benetton ,Will's Lifestyle, Nik Nish and Bata .
