Orpheus Productions' Critically Acclaimed Play 'Kirdaar' To Enchant Audiences At Jagriti Theatre In Bangalore
Orpheus Productions, a student-led theatre group from Christ (Deemed to be University) of Bannerghattta Road Campus in Bangalore, is all set to perform their critically acclaimed proscenium, Kirdaar, at Jagriti Theatre in Whitefield on March 30th, 2023, at 7:30 PM.

The play has won several awards at festivals across India, including IIT Bombay's Mood Indigo 2022, which is South Asia's largest cultural college fest, IIM Bangalore's Unmaad 2023, Symbiosis Pune's Transcend 2023, and Bengaluru's Revelation 2023, and Darpan 2022 at Christ University.
Kirdaar is an immersive bilingual theatrical experience that features an original script, story, and musical composition. Set in West Bengal in the 20th century, the play tells the story of Mukundo, who faces backlash from his father, a respected zamindar, Bijon Kumar, for ruining his reputation in society. However, there is a secret prophecy that Mukundo's parents know will eventually lead them to societal doom. The play uses traditional methods from folk theatres, such as folk music and dance, comic relief, and dramatic action, to elevate the story.
The play has received immense praise from theatre stalwarts like Rakesh Bedi and Prithvi Zutshi for its spellbinding stage immersion and fascinating dramatic performance. It has been directed by Sayan Chaudhuri and Japjot Singh Malhotra, undergraduate students of Psychology Honours, and co-written by Saumya Singh, an undergraduate student of Journalism Honours at Christ (Deemed to be University). The play promises to be an unforgettable experience that will transcend the audience into the world of 20th-century West Bengal.
With its innovative storytelling, absorbing theatrical immersion, and talented cast and crew, Kirdaar is a must-watch for all theatre enthusiasts. The proscenium stars undergraduate students of Christ University's Bannerghatta Road Campus from Orpheus Productions, and this will be their first professional and ticketed performance of their much-lauded proscenium, Kirdaar, for the general audience.
Orpheus Productions was established in 2016 by students who were theatre enthusiasts and were transferred from Christ (Deemed to be University's) Central Campus in Bangalore to Bannerghatta Road Campus when the institution was launching the new courses. The students felt that the new campus, too, needed to have its own production house, which could cater to the students' creative needs and abilities and give them a platform to showcase their talent. The production house, since then, has been run by students with an aim to foster the culture of performing arts in students and become the voice of the voiceless through stories like Astitva, Pinjara, Hakikat, Uttarayan, Kafan, Har Yug Mahabharat, Shringaar, Ek Taali, The R-Word, Virgin Mojito, and many more.
All these stories have been enacted through proscenium, mime, and street play. They have vociferously talked on sensitive topics like rape, custody, human trafficking and prostitution, the LGBTQIA+ community, virginity, terrorism, and human emotions. Orpheus has tried to raise awareness through its art, where the student community does everything from scratch, including ideating, scripting, pitching, directing, stage committee work, and music composing. Not to forget, during the pandemic, Orpheus adapted to the situation and came up with short films like Rangsaaz, The Absent Passenger, This Is The Plot, etcetera, to keep the flame of art burning.
In the past, the production house has been praised for its work by the Founder of Alchemy Theatre Society in Bangalore, Mr. Satyam Gangwar and Actor Avinash Mudappa for its brilliant performance and clean writing. So mark your calendars and clear your schedules to live the artist's life through the lens of Kirdaar. You can avail the tickets through BookMyShow.
